RAVE 2015: Artist in residence Diego Perrone

It’s started, with the arrival of Diego Perrone at the Borgo of Soleschiano, the 4th edition of RAVE EAST VILLAGE ARTIST RESIDENCY, the art project that takes place in the Friuli countryside and has the pleasure to guest, each spring, an artist with an international profile so that it can conduct his own research in a specific context.

The creators of the project, the artists Isabella and Tiziana Pers, along with activists and volunteers, have welcomed in the charming village of Soleschiano the famous artist, one of the most significant in national and international scene, exhibits his works in many of the major museums in the world, including the MAXXI in Rome, Museion in Bolzano, the Guggenheim in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

His research follows the line between dream dimension and tangible reality, between what actually exists and what exists only as a possibility.

His work reinterprets the themes of popular culture and reinvents traditional icons, the evocation of what is “behind” the ordinary, the effort to understand and acquire the thought processes that have seemingly no concreteness or representation

He participated at the 53rd Venice Biennale – The Encyclopedic Palace, curated by Massimiliano Gioni, at the 4th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, at the 11th Triennale India, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2005, Moscow, and at the 50th Venice Biennale – the Zone, always curated by Massimiliano Gioni.

Perrone, as the artists who preceded him in past editions, such as Adrian Paci, who in 2011/2012 has made the video Inside the Circle. Ivan Moudov, with the installation of 2013 Stones, and Regina José Galindo, in 2014, realized the performance La oveja negra, is invited to think about a new project that opens a glimpse into the biocentric perspective, and that will come to life during the period of stay from Friuli.

And this is indeeed, the underlying concept of the RAVE project which promotes research, production, dialogue and dissemination of contemporary art, emphasizing in this context the antispecisms thought in an innovative and experimental art project.

The Residence takes place therefore in a place where animals live, through actions of the artist Tiziana Pers, were saved from the slaughterhouse and taken from their consumerist mechanisms to be welcomed and cared in a more natural contest.

This year the residency takes place therefore in the historic village of Soleschiano, in Manzano, near Udine. The old stable of the old farmhouse comes alive with meetings and workshops, while in grass surrounding will live a donkey and a dwarf goat, the two protagonists nonhuman saved for the 2015 edition.

Perrone, the artist-in-residence and all the other guests, which include artists, art critics, philosophers, journalists, architects and volunteers, will relate with the two animals in order to offer a different perspective which point basis for new dialogue between art and culture and thought biocentric.

The RAVE project is divided into several phases: a month after his arrival in Friuli, Thursday,July 2nd from 18.00 to 20.00, at Casa Cavazzini Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Udine, Diego Perrone will meet the public in a dialogue with the art historian Valentina Sonzogni and the philosopher Leonardo Caffo. The event will be sponsored by the City and the Civic Museums of Udine.

During the day Friday, July 3rd, at the historic village of Soleschiano, home of the edition RAVE 2015, seven young artists selected by curators Daniel Capra and Giuliana Carbi, will have the opportunity to participate in a short workshop dedicated to their research.

Saturday, July 4th, from 20 pm, at the historic village of Soleschiano, will take place the night of the dialogue: a round table in which you will learn more, through the eyes of the art, the close parallels between racism, sexism and speciesism, which will be attended by the artists, curators, journalists, philosophers and architects.

To close the residency program, Monday, July 13th, at the PAC Pavilion of Contemporary Art of Milan will host the presentation of the project of Diego Perrone specifically designed for interaction with the territory of Friuli Venezia Giulia and the animals and the themes of the RAVE Residency.
